Event Calendar 2012 Donostia - San Sebastian
We are very excited about all the events taking place in our city of Donostia - San Sebastián this year. It would be ideal to combine one of the many film festivals, sport events, Basque traditional celebrations or concerts and music festivals with a weekend break in San Sebastián.
As there are so many things to do, we decided to create a Calendar with all major events of 2012...
JANUARY
5th of January - Cabalgata de Reyes
This day the people in San Sebastian celebrate the arrival of the three Wiseman. Every year there will be a beautiful parade of floats and lots to do in the evening.
19th and 20th of January - La Tamborrada
Beware of your ears with this intense festival, because you are going to hear drums for 24hours long. The activity begins on the evening at the Plaza de la Constitution and winds through all the barrios of the old city.
20th of January - Fiesta de San Sebastián
The feast of the city San Sebastian, a day full of parades, performances, parties and races.
FEBRUARY
Carnaval y comparsa de los calderos
Desfiles por la ciudad, música, bailes, gente disfrazada y mucho más.
MARCH
Domingo de Piñata
Celebrate a week after the Carnival finishes. It will take part around 20 groups that they will dismiss Carnival with all their energy and start the racing season.
APRIL
20th till 27th of April Human Rights Film Festival
Every year the Human Rights Film Festival takes place in San Sebastian. The Film Festival is there to make people aware of the multitude situations confronting humanity. It will have several exhibitions of dance, theatre and music performances.
Fiesta del Aguardiente y la Queimada
A whole day full of dancing performances and music bands, you can buy several Galician gastronomic products at the market around Easo Square and enjoy the real Basque atmosphere.
MAY
Festival del tango
Two days full of activities, demonstrations, tango classes and events, hold by international tango experts.
Intxaurrondo Gastronomy week
A number of international chefs attend this prominent cooking event, in the Intxaurrondo district, with plenty of demonstrations and workshops.
JUNE
10th of June - Amstel Surfilm festibal
Are you into surfing? And movies? Than we have found you a perfect match! The Amstel Surfilmfestibal is a film festival entirely about Surfing!
Fiesta de la Cerveza
This festival is all about beers, you can taste all kinds of beer, there are several events around beer and there is a big market around the Paseo of Justo Elizaran.
Dia de la Rioja
The Rioja wine is the wine of the Basque area. Once a year the successes of the international known wine are celebrated in it’s own festival, where you can of course buy, taste and enjoy the wine at a great street market close to Plaza de Zuloaga.p>
JULY
La copa Donostia
The Donosti Cup is a yearly international soccer tournament for boys and girls born after 1992. It brings the 200 best youth soccer teams from all over the world together to play exciting matches on 15 soccer fields.
Regata de Vela San Sebastián
An international two round Regatta starts its first round in Hendaye and ends in San Sebastian. The second round takes fully place in the La Concha Bay of San Sebastian.
47º Heineken Jazzaldia – El festival del jazz
Plaza de la Trinidad, Centro Kursaal and The Zurriola beach is where it all takes place: The San Sebastian Jazz Festival. Big Jazz performers will gather in the city during this summer days to give major concerts and light up the streets with small bands and lots of outdoor entertainment.
AUGUST
11th till 18th of August - Semana Grande
This tradition in the Basque Country fills the city of San Sebastián with parties, great concerts, children’s activities and a spectrum of different activities planned throughout the week. One of the greatest events of Donostia.
Concurso internacional de fuegos artificiales
The International Fireworks Competition or ‘Concurso Internacional de Fuegos Artificales’ is one of the main activities during the Semana Grande. Each night, firework specialist from all over the world will compete to give the best show.
SEPTEMBER
Euskal Jaiak
The first days of September Donostia San Sebastian celebrates Euskal Jaiak. Days full of Basque, cultural and sportive events.
Regatas Traineras
Prestigious rowing boat competition which takes place the first two Sundays of September in San Sebastian Bay.
60 ºInternational Film Festival San Sebastián
For nine days straight, San Sebastián will become the capital of glamour. Quality films and exhibitions will share the spotlight with the movie stars that will visit the city.
OCTOBER
Horror and Fantasy Film Festival
The week of Fantasy and Horror Films includes Cinema Marathons and much more activities in the horror and fantasy genre.
NOVEMBER
La Maratón
The marathon of San Sebastian not only includes the marathon itself but also many activities for people at the side line.
Campeonato de Póker
Searching for the Poker champion of Spain, San Sebastián is one of the stops on their way there. With an enrollment fee of €660 and a maximum of 200 players, Donostia is the perfect city to host this exclusive event.
San Sebastián - Gastronomika
Hundreds of chefs and cooking experts around the world gather at the San Sebastián Gastronomika Congres. For three days Donosti becomes the center of European Gastronomy. Visitors will have a chance to taste exquisite products in more than 200 stands set up for this unique occasion.
DECEMBER
Santo Tomás
The smell of Txistorra (a typical Basque spicy sausage), will take over the streets of San Sebastián during the 21st of December. The traditional fair of Saint Thomas brings together thousands of citizens to enjoy the Txistorra Cheese, Honey, Vegetables and many other local products.
San Silvestre Donostiarra
The most exciting race trough whole San Sebastian.
XVII Certamen de cine y video joven de Irún
Festival dedicated to shorts movies, with specific sections of film and video which shows the most interesting productions of the year.
